Sustainability & Responsible UK Craftsmanship at Lorn Jean®

Sustainability

UK Craftsmanship, hand-finished with precision & care.

Every jewellery creation is cast in the UK using the ancient lost wax casting process and finished by hand to a superior polish in our studio.

At Lorn Jean, every step of the design process reflects our thoughtful approach to craftsmanship and sustainability. From the first sketch to the final polish, each piece is consciously designed to embody our values of artistry and ethical responsibility.

Fine Jewellery: Tradition Meets Innovation

Each Lorn Jean piece begins with a carefully sculpted design, refined in both 2D and 3D form. Once perfected, we work with British casting artisans to bring these designs to life using the centuries-old Lost Wax Casting method. This traditional technique captures intricate details with unmatched precision, ensuring each piece meets the highest standards.

Once cast, each creation returns to our studio, where it undergoes in-house hand-finishing to achieve a superior polish. This hands-on process allows us to refine every curve and contour, ensuring that each piece is not only unique but a true reflection of our craftsmanship. By keeping production close to home, we reduce our environmental impact while preserving the artistry that defines Lorn Jean®.

Recycled Metals & X-RAY Silver

Sustainability at Lorn Jean® means staying at the forefront of new innovations. We use recycled silver and gold across our collections, with select pieces crafted in AgAIN sterling silver by Betts Metals. This silver is refined from medical X-ray film, as part of Betts’ AgAIN silver initiative, a scalable, eco-friendly solution. AgAIN silver is guaranteed by Betts to be recycled from medical X-rays collected in the UK.

Betts Metals, a leader in precious metal refining with strong ESG credentials, collaborates with the NHS and other health organisations to collect and recycle X-ray film, processing up to five tonnes per week. This initiative reduces waste in healthcare while providing high-quality, ethical silver for jewellery and other industries.

By choosing Lorn Jean pieces crafted from AgAIN silver, you’re investing in luxury while supporting sustainable practices that benefit both healthcare and the environment. Further details on the precious metals used in our jewellery can be found on our product pages.

Timeless Design

At Lorn Jean®, we believe that true sustainability means crafting pieces that stand the test of time. Our commitment to timeless design ensures each piece is crafted not just for today but for future generations. Every piece is crafted in small batches to ensure attention to detail and quality. Limited production means each piece remains special, and meticulously crafted—because we believe that true luxury should be made with care, not haste.

Thoughtful Packaging, Responsible Production

We take a considered approach to every aspect of our process, including packaging. Each pouchette and luxury drawstring pouch is handmade in our studio using fabrics with sustainable features including cotton, viscose, and corn fabric. These materials are chosen for their eco-friendliness and durability, ensuring that the packaging is as thoughtful and lasting as the jewellery it holds.

Our packaging is produced on demand to minimise waste, with an optional seamless black jewellery box available for gift wrapping. While this elegant option is crafted with precision in Germany, we encourage its use only when necessary.

Every detail matters—from the jewellery itself to the sustainable packaging it arrives in—because true luxury is defined by care and intention.

Why UK Manufacturing Matters

Manufacturing in the UK allows us to preserve the artistry and heritage of British craftsmanship, ensuring each piece is crafted with precision and high quality materials. By keeping production close to home, we also shorten supply chains and reduce global shipping, minimising our environmental footprint.

While producing locally may involve higher costs, it enables us to uphold the integrity of our craft.

Our Promise

Every Lorn Jean piece reflects our core values—crafted to endure, made with purpose. We use recycled materials, work with UK casting artisans, and hand-finish each creation with care and precision.

Supporting Lorn Jean means supporting UK craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and a deeper connection to the pieces you wear—each one a testament to creativity and enduring beauty.
