At Lorn Jean, sustainability and artistry go hand in hand. One of the most innovative materials we use in our jewellery is reclaimed X-ray silver—a refined and sustainable precious metal that brings new life to what would otherwise be medical waste.
The Story Behind X-Ray Silver
The X-ray silver used in our pieces is sourced from Betts Metals, a company renowned for its commitment to sustainability and ethical sourcing. Through their AgAIN initiative, Betts Metals reclaims silver from medical X-ray film in the UK, collected from the NHS and other health organisations. This eco-friendly process refines X-ray film into fully traceable, high-quality silver. Not only does this initiative reduce waste, but it also aligns with our dedication to using metals that are both beautiful and environmentally conscious.
Betts Metals can process up to five tonnes of X-ray film each week, ensuring that the silver we use is not only ethically sourced but also contributes to reducing waste in healthcare.
Crafted with Integrity
Each piece in our collection is cast in the UK using the traditional lost wax casting process and meticulously hand-finished, ensuring that every design reflects the brand's dedication to both artistry and sustainability.
By incorporating X-ray silver into our designs, we are able to offer pieces that not only reflect the sculptural elegance of Lorn Jean’s vision but also carry the integrity of responsible craftsmanship. The use of reclaimed materials is more than just a step toward sustainability—it’s a reflection of our dedication to innovation, ethics, and creating jewellery that resonates on both an artistic and environmental level.
