On display at the National Museum of Scotland, The Florentine Dress remains a defining expression of Lorn Jean’s sculptural language, where jewellery and garment construction merge into a singular form.
Originally conceived as part of the Les Monstres de Monaco collection, the dress is constructed entirely from hand-sculpted silver elements—each piece individually pliered, linking into a seamless architectural lattice. The design is held together not by thread or seam, but through structure and connection, echoing Lorn Jean’s enduring philosophy: that form, balance and composition evolve through an iterative process of exploration.
Informed by emotional weight and philosophical intent, the dress is shaped as a refined guardian—otherworldly, sculptural, and composed through material intricacy. Its digitally rendered lace draws from the architectural carvings of Le Musée Océanographique in Monaco, reinterpreted into flowing patterns that hold both memory and place. Swarovski crystal motifs emerge from illustrated mouths, echoing ornamental door knockers found throughout the city—symbols of watchfulness and perception.
The form is layered in silver organza, viscose, and silk, each material chosen for its luminosity and softness—creating subtle reflections and a shifting interplay of surface. Constructed entirely through hand-sculpted silver lattices, each connection becomes structure and ornament in one—an interwoven system of presence, precision, and the notion of protection. Rooted in the studio’s Scottish origins yet imagined beyond place, the dress embodies a sculptural guardian: a composition of emotional depth and structural intimacy.
Today, The Florentine Dress stands not only as a showpiece but as the genesis of the studio’s evolving design practice—a material foundation from which Lorn Jean jewellery continues to emerge.
The Florentine Dress is a protected and registered design of Lorn Jean Ltd. with registration no.6013541.
